Fall is in full swing now and certainly everyone knows that the days and nights become only colder up to the spring. But there is another side – fashion lovers can make their look more interesting adding different layers and stylish outwear pieces. Today let’s speak about men’s fashion, about new outwear tends and the ways of wearing and combining them. This fall and winter are featured warm hues, comfortable and textured materials. It is the season of the comeback to the old favourite trends but with modern elements. Usually men like their habitual things and this autumn they can be happy because of the returning the quilted jackets.
Designers’ Fashion Shows
Burberry showed different quilted jackets in the collection for spring and summer 2014. It seems that it was a prediction of this trend. Burberry created quilted jackets in different shades of green, pairing them with brights, proving that such silhouettes could be used all year round.
For the Fall and Winter 2014/2015 British fashion brands like Hackett and YMC, Kent and Curwen offer quilted jackets for men in neutral shades pairing with tailored separates, rugged boots and tweed suits. This approach is rather traditional and timeless.
The quilted jacket began its life in England in 1965.
Italian brand Tod’s has presented luxurious orange quilt jacket, which is made of premium suede. You can pair it with bottle green t-shirt and brown trousers to create a statement autumn look.
Quilted jackets are not traditional this year. Quilting is applied to different outwear styles and new trends appear. The appropriate length is somewhere between knee and mid-thigh. This fall the coats come in two different forms like duffle (Opening Ceremony and Christopher Raeburn) and overcoat (Canali, Burberry and Balenciaga). They are perfect for protecting the suiting in the cold days.
They come in the variety of cuts and colours. Alexander Wang, Dsquared2 and James Long have created sporty quilted bombers of different shapes and hues, Thom Browne at Moncler has mixed new and old styles, adding a little fantasy and drama. Giorgio Armani, J.Crew, Christopher Raeburn and Ami showed lots of wearable designs in grey, black, khaki green and navy colours, which can look good with any stylish and modern wardrobe.
Different ways of wearing and combining outfits
Certainly, the ways of wearing quilted outwear depend on your own preferences, occasion and personal style. But there are two approaches to create the look.
In the Fall 2014 designers offer quilted jackets of bold hues and various cuts.
Heritage style approach
If your aim is to create a timeless outfit and to look “British gent” like, choose a heritage design of the outwear. Opt for the pieces by Guylas, which have been created for the “Husky” brand. The Husky jackets are rather simple and single-breasted. They have five buttons and diamond-shaped quilting. Barbour and Lavenhan also create wonderful quilted jackets, combining cord, wood and tweed. These jackets are rather expensive, but they cost every penny. The quilted jackets continue to be created in Britain and they are made using traditional approach. This outwear has classic silhouette and can be used for some seasons and be trendy. Also try the collections of such UK brands as Farah, M&S, Ted Baker, Ben Sherman or Joules if you want to create the heritage style. They all are great and you can find the quilted jacket you want.
To integrate such quilted jacket into your wardrobe, think about the jackets in navy. You can pair them with a light Oxford shirt, stylish tan cords and dark brown boots. Such combination channel the country aesthetic and you will look stylish and trendy.
Many designers have used quilted outwear in their collections for the Fall and Winter 2014/2015. This is a season of nontraditional cuts and forms. It doesn’t mean you should look for something avant-garde style, but think about your wardrobe from the other side.
One of the trendy outwear of this fall is a quilted sporty bomber jacket. Choose diamond-quilted nylon piece with corduroy collar. Pair such jacket with a white t-shirt and slim-fit jeans. Finish the look with fashion trendy trainers.
Also you can try to wear a leather quilted jacket. It can be in charcoal grey, bottle green (a trendy colour of this season) or black. Leather can make your look more sophisticated. But if you want to create more punk-inspired look, wear it over a red and black check shirt in combination with slim-fit jeans and stylish footwear like a pair of Dr. Martens.
Quilted jackets tie the past and the present.
If you have a quilted jacket in classic navy or olive, you can pair it with an orange shirt and slim slacks to create a modern look. Black brogues will be the perfect finish of this ensemble. This look combines traditional and modern approaches updating classic silhouette.
Quilted jackets can come in new colours and shapes this season, but the principles remain the same – to keep you from cold and wet weather and to create effortlessly stylish look.
